How to play Snake

Choose a round of Snake and settle into its rules. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Look at what changes after your first action. Begin with the solo mode shown on the page. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Start with a deliberate move.

Step by step

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Controls

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Look at the feedback after the action.

A useful example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Read the matching step again.

Watch out for this

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
